ORDO PREADICATORUM
About Us
The Director of Vocations for Vancouver serves to promote the life of Dominican Friars and Dominican Spirituality across Western Canada. Our aim is to help young men discover Saint Dominic’s founding charism of proclaiming the Gospel, to bring the light Christ of into the world so often darkened by ignorance, errors, and indifference.
St. Dominic was known for weeping while in prayer, distraught over what would happen to the souls of sinners.
St. Dominic’s zeal was motivated to preach the Gospel of salvation which is our mission as Dominicans, and the charism of St. Dominic we want to share.
To follow the footsteps of St. Dominic requires men of courage: to confront the world, to confront our communities, to confront ourselves. We are in constant need of spiritual purification. St. Dominic began with the desire to spread the Gospel, but he did not start with grandiose convents. Instead, his followers gathered in communities to pray, to study the Word of God, to preach, and to live together in community.
We are first of all preachers, but then also builders of our communities -- and quite literally -- like St. Dominic, we start with courageous men where we preach and build together. Upon discovering Dominican life, we hope to bring men to a greater awareness of what it means to live in chastity, poverty, and obedience. In Western Canada, as in the time of St. Dominic, we start with men who want to proclaim the Gospel and build Dominican communities that reflect the light of Christ.
